Cocos took place on 9 November 1914 during Wor ld War I in the vicinity of the Cocos located in the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean. German light cruiser SMS Emden attac ked a British radio station that supports undersea cable and was captured after a few hours by the Australian light cruiser HMAS Sydney . Although both ships belonged to a similar class, Sydney was later, much larger, faster and much better armed. Australian ship with higher speeds, remained beyond the reach of the German department, referring only light damage and within half an hour turning the devastated German ship wreck, the crew mounted on a sandbank.
